To the north of the town of Enniskillen in Northern Ireland, a small island resides in the middle of the River Erne. Spanning 1.25 miles long and 0.66 miles wide, Devenish Island is home to a 6th century monastic site, first established by Saint Molaise. In the 15th century, it was re-established as part of the Augustinian order as St. Mary’s. The tower shown was built in the 12th century as a belfry and watchtower for the monks. Traveling to the island was one of the last legs of my journey in Northern Ireland in the spring of 2026.
